Terms of Use

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE USING CYPRUS CITY. THEY FORM A LEGALLY BINDING AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU AND US.

1. Introduction and definitions

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”), together with our Privacy Policy, govern access to and use of:

• the Cyprus City mobile applications (iOS / Android);
• the website https://cyp.city and any related pages;
• any URL, subdomain, backend service or Application Programming Interface (API) through which Cyprus City data, caches, feeds or content may be accessed (collectively, “Cyprus City”, the “App”, the “Service”).

“You” means any person or entity that accesses or uses Cyprus City, including end users, developers, scrapers, bots, researchers and commercial operators.

“Content” means text, data, listings, schedules, maps, images, metadata, caches, API responses, documentation and any other materials made available through Cyprus City.

Web scraping / data scraping means automated extraction or harvesting of data from websites, apps, databases or APIs (including via bots, spiders, scripts, headless browsers, bulk downloaders or similar tools).

2. Nature of the Service

Cyprus City is an unofficial informational aggregator and city guide for the Republic of Cyprus. Content is compiled from publicly available and open sources and from content we create ourselves. Information may be incomplete, delayed or incorrect.

The Service is not affiliated with the Government of Cyprus, the Road Transport Department (RTD), EAC, Water Boards, GESY, the police, airports, cinema operators, classifieds platforms or other third parties, unless we expressly state a partnership.

Nothing in the App is medical, legal, tax, immigration, financial or professional advice. Always verify critical information on official websites and with qualified professionals before paying fees or making decisions.

3. Lawful public sources only

We obtain and display information from publicly available sources and lawful public interfaces (and from content we author). We do not obtain data by unlawful intrusion, theft of credentials, bypassing authentication to private systems, or other illegal methods.

Examples of source categories (non-exhaustive): EAC outage pages; water-outage public notices; OpenStreetMap; public news RSS feeds; public event/tourism calendars; publicly published cinema schedules; fuel and pharmacy public listings; weather / air-quality / marine public datasets; public flight information; publicly available government-facing lookup helpers; and, where enabled, public classified listing summaries with attribution and outbound links (e.g. Bazaraki), subject to those platforms’ own terms.

Third-party Content remains owned by its respective owners. Your use of third-party sites or apps is governed by their terms and privacy policies.

4. Prohibition of scraping, harvesting and unauthorised API use

Our API is not public. Endpoints under cyp.city (including /api/* and related paths) exist solely to operate Cyprus City apps and services for authorised clients. There is no licence for the general public, other apps, websites, agencies or companies to call, mirror, republish or commercially exploit our API or datasets without our prior express written consent.

4.1 Prohibited activities

You agree that you will not, without our prior written permission:

• use any robot, spider, scraper, crawler, bot, headless browser, script or other automated means to access Cyprus City or collect Content for any purpose;
• perform web scraping, data scraping, harvesting or bulk extraction of Content, caches, listings, schedules, user-related metadata or API responses;
• call, probe, reverse-engineer, document for republication, or integrate our API into any third-party product, website, dataset, research corpus or commercial service;
• copy, reproduce, mirror, frame, redistribute, sell, resell, rent, sublicense or otherwise exploit any aspect of Cyprus City or its Content (other than your own content you lawfully submit to us, if any);
• create derivative databases or competing feeds based on our API responses or caches;
• bypass, disable or interfere with authentication, rate limits, session controls, IP controls, device checks or other technical protection measures;
• impose an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on our infrastructure;
• remove or obscure attribution, trademarks or proprietary notices;
• use Cyprus City’s name, logos or trademarks in a way that suggests affiliation, endorsement or “powered by Cyprus City open data” without written permission;
• harvest information about users (including device identifiers, emails or chat handles) without lawful basis and consent where required.

4.2 Written permission only

Silence, delayed replies, public availability of an endpoint URL, or the fact that a network request returns JSON/HTML does not constitute permission. Access for partners, researchers or integrators requires prior express written consent from us (for example by email from legal@cyp.city).

4.3 Enforcement and legal action

Any unauthorised scraping, harvesting, republication or public/commercial use of our API or Content is a material breach of these Terms. We reserve the right to:

• immediately suspend or block access (including by IP, device id, token or ASN);
• require deletion/destruction of unlawfully obtained copies;
• pursue civil and/or criminal legal proceedings to the fullest extent permitted by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus and applicable EU law, including claims for injunctions, damages, account of profits and recovery of legal costs.

We may investigate suspected abuse using technical logs and other lawful means.

5. Acceptable use of the App by end users

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Cyprus City mobile App for lawful personal or internal non-commercial informational purposes.

You must not misuse the Service, attempt unauthorised access, upload unlawful content, or use the App to infringe third-party rights.

6. Third-party content and deep links

Listings, prices, schedules, maps and similar items may come from third parties. Cyprus City acts as a convenience aggregator and deep-links to the original source where possible. We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, safety or terms of third-party services. Transactions and chats on third-party platforms (including classifieds) happen under those platforms’ rules.

7. Intellectual property

Cyprus City branding, UI, original guides, selection/arrangement of aggregated feeds, software and documentation are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited licence in section 5, no rights are granted.

You agree not to copy, distribute or modify Content from Cyprus City without our express written consent.

8. No warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation, or that aggregated third-party data is complete or current.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits or business, arising from your use of Cyprus City. Our aggregate liability for claims relating to the Service shall not exceed EUR 50, except where liability cannot be limited under applicable law.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change accordingly. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts of the Republic of Cyprus shall have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections that cannot be waived.
