Privacy Policy

PLEASE READ THIS PRIVACY POLICY CAREFULLY. It explains how Cyprus City (“we”, “us”, “our”, the “App”, the “Service”, available at cyp.city) collects, uses and protects information when you use our mobile applications, website and related APIs.
1. Who we are
Cyprus City is an unofficial informational city guide for residents, newcomers and visitors in the Republic of Cyprus. We are not a government authority and are not affiliated with the Government of Cyprus or its agencies.

2. Data we collect
- Device identifier — a random UUID generated and stored on your device. Used to sync optional saved vehicles, notification preferences, Telegram linking, session security, and (if enabled) analytics.
- Analytics (optional; on by default; you can disable in Settings → Privacy):
- Screens, tabs and features you open; app version; device model; OS; language; selected city.
- Approximate network location — IP address and derived country/city.
- Precise location — GPS coordinates only when the OS location permission is granted and analytics is enabled. Used to understand product usage, not to sell ads.
- Optional vehicle / fines helpers — if you choose to save a plate number, ARC-related identifier or similar reminder data, it is stored until you delete it in Settings or request deletion by email.
- Telegram (optional) — if you connect Telegram for alerts, we store the link between your device UUID and your Telegram chat id.
- In-app promo banners — first-party impression and tap counters for banners we manage. No IDFA/AAID advertising identifiers; no cross-app tracking; we do not sell this data.
- Technical logs — limited API request metadata (path, status, approximate time, IP, user-agent, device id when provided) for security, abuse prevention and reliability.
3. How we use data
We use the information above to operate the App, deliver city information and reminders you request, secure the Service, improve the product, and measure our own promotional placements. We do not sell personal data and we do not use data for cross-app advertising tracking.
4. Public and open sources (aggregator)
Cyprus City is primarily an aggregator of publicly available information. We do not obtain data through hacking, credential stuffing, unauthorised access to private systems, or other unlawful means. Where we display third-party content, we do so as a convenience layer and typically deep-link to the original publisher.
Depending on the feature and city, sources may include (non-exhaustive, and subject to change):
- Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) — planned and fault power interruptions.
- Water boards / water outage notices — public interruption information where available.
- OpenStreetMap and Overpass-style map data — places, POIs, map context (© OpenStreetMap contributors).
- Public news RSS / publisher feeds — e.g. Cyprus Mail, Philenews / In-Cyprus, SigmaLive and similar public feeds (titles/summaries with links to the original article).
- Public event calendars and tourism listings — e.g. Visit Cyprus, EventOr, Cyprus.BZ and Cyprus Mail “What’s On” public listings, plus curated public calendars.
- Cinema schedules — publicly published schedules from cinema operators (e.g. K Cineplex / Premier-related public pages), plus map locations from OpenStreetMap.
- Fuel price / station information — publicly published fuel data where available.
- Duty pharmacies and similar public health listings.
- Weather, air quality, UV, pollen, marine/wind and beach-safety related public datasets or APIs.
- Hazard / civil warning style public alerts where published for Cyprus.
- Flight status / airport public information for Larnaca and Paphos where available.
- Road tax and related vehicle helpers — we estimate / calculate road tax and similar figures using publicly available data and open sources on the internet (and, where offered, unofficial convenience access to publicly available camera-fine / ARC-style lookup interfaces). Always verify amounts and obligations on official sites before payment or legal decisions.
- GESY / living-guide style public reference information and curated educational content.
- Nature trails / outdoor public datasets where published.
- Classifieds (e.g. Bazaraki) — where enabled, public listing summaries for convenience, with clear attribution and redirection to the original site/chat. Use of those platforms remains subject to their terms and privacy policies.
- Editorially curated content we publish ourselves — guides, tips, in-app news/events created in our admin tools.
When you open an external website, app or listing, that third party’s own privacy policy applies. We do not claim ownership of third-party listings, trademarks or websites.
5. Our API and server data are not a public open-data feed
Our backend API at cyp.city exists solely to power Cyprus City applications and
authorised partners. It is not a public open-data portal. See the
Terms of Use for strict prohibitions on scraping, harvesting and
unauthorised republication.
6. Retention and deletion
Vehicle / ARC-style saved data can be deleted in Settings (“Delete fines data”) or by emailing us after uninstall. Analytics events are retained for product metrics and purged periodically. Security logs are retained only as long as needed for abuse prevention and operations.
